Extract from note, dated 6 September 1856
"With respect to the Ship 'Alfred' I ought perhaps to have mentioned, that in Record book I found the following Memorandum.
4478
-Names: against her 'The Passenger list contained the names of 478 Adults, but, as in the case of the 'Tuskine', a bulkhead had been improperly erected, and 25 passengers were, at my requisition, withdrawn.
One referring back to the 'Tuskine' I find a remark that a portion of the between decks having been improperly divided, and appropriated to other purposes, I restricted the carriage of more than 200" (i.e. in lieu of 315 passengers).
